When you have kids, the quest for family fun never ends. From outdoor adventures to cozy indoor activities, I made a list of ideas for whatever vibe you're going for. Whether you're a single parent, a caregiver, or have your own little league soccer team, there's something here for everyone.
Outdoor Movie Night
Grab an outdoor projector, make a cute inviting seating area, get some snacks and have a chill movie night under the stars. Bonus points for starting a campfire!
Scavenger Hunt
Okay guys, so this is one of my FAVORITE things to do with my son. Whether it's a neighborhood walk, a trip to the beach, going to the store, etc. it makes everything so much more exciting. Kids get such a sense of pride when they find something on their list, and it keeps them engaged and excited. You can even have them help you make the list if they're old enough. Offer a prize at the end if you really want to step it up a notch. This is also GREAT for long car rides.
Picnic
There's something magical about spreading out a blanket, unpacking a basket filled with goodies, and basking in the beautiful weather. Whether it's a lazy Sunday afternoon or a spontaneous weekday escape, a family picnic is the perfect way to slow down and create those lasting memories with your family.
Fishing
Picture this: the sun rising over the tranquil waters, the gentle sound of lapping waves, and the excitement in your child's eyes as they reel in their first catch. Whether you catch a charter boat or fish off your local dock, fishing is a great bonding experience.
Hiking
Lace up and get into the outdoors at a local nature park. Make sure to do your research first to see if the trail is kid friendly. Parenting is already hard, don't make it harder.
Family Olympics
Make an obstacle course and get everyone involved with their ideas. This can be done anywhere and everywhere, inside, outside, at your local park, etc.
DIY Crafts
From making binoculars out of toilet paper rolls, painting rocks or building an elaborate masterpiece, gauge your family's expertise and create something beautiful together!
Plant Seeds & Watch Them Grow
Getting your kids involved with the whole growing process from start to finish is so prideful and exciting. Whether it's flowers or vegetables, I recommend choosing options that are easy to manage and fast growing. Building a terrarium is also super exciting and fun.
Build A Fort and Go Camping
Do you remember being a kid and everything felt bigger? Forts are like enormous magical castles with endless possibilities for kids. Grab all the blankets, chairs, whatever you have and embrace your inner child. This can be done indoors or outdoors, whatever your preference. Take it up a notch and camp out overnight.
Cook Or Bake Something Together
Kids love to crack eggs, pour things and just make a mess while having fun. Get them involved with an old family recipe, make some pizzas or even just a simple batch of boxed cupcakes. Not only is cooking a fun activity, but it also provides an opportunity to teach valuable skills and experiment with new flavors and ingredients.
Puzzles
Puzzles are a fun, brain tickling way to keep engaged and have fun. This is a great option for rainy days or even a beautiful sunny day outside.
Find Local Events Near You
Google and Facebook usually have the low down about all the local events going on near you. From street fairs and farmers markets to carnivals and free bands playing at the park, there's something for everyone and every budget.
Museums
Not every kid likes museums, let's be real. But we're in 2024 and they have a plethora of options now, depending on where you live you can find interactive museums with fun things to do, super cool shows, planetariums, etc.
Zoo/Aquarium
Because, free Willy.
Bike Ride
Bike rides are great for getting all that energy out and feeling invigorated with the wind on your face. This is also a great option for people who don't like to hike. I always say you get to cover more ground with less effort.
Family Volunteer Day: Give back to your community by volunteering together at a local charity or organizing a neighborhood cleanup. Not only will you be making a positive impact and teaching your kids to be good people, but you'll also strengthen your family bonds in the process.
Now go make some memories!
